You just had your first lesson. Ms. Mandi gave you a few things to practice. But wait, what were they again?
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! The videos below will help you remember the things we went over in the lesson.
Quick Draw the Bow
This simple step will help you get a perfect Beginner Bow Hold, every time. All violin, viola, and cello students start with this. (Cello students, keep your pinkie flat.)
Up Like a Rocket
Sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, we use this song to help us get used to controlling the bow. This is helpful for all violin, viola, and cello students.
Violin/Viola Hold
Here is my four-step process for putting your violin or viola into playing position. Older students may find it a little silly, but if you do it for a week or two, you will have a really solid foundation for placing your instrument moving forward. If you’re nervous about dropping your instrument, you can do it in front of the couch, bed, or cushy armchair. That way, if you drop it, the instrument won’t hit the floor. (NOTE: A student has never reported dropping their instrument while doing this exercise.)
